Media Spotlight | Economic Information Daily Focuses on Nuclear Fusion Industry Development and Commercial Enterprises' Technological Exploration, Represented by HHMAX-ENERGY

On March 27, the Economic Information Daily featured a front-page headline story on Page 04 detailing China's nuclear fusion industry layout and development progress. Titled “The Race to Commercialization: How Will the ‘Artificial Sun’ Become Reality?”, the article examined the sector's advancement while highlighting commercial enterprises like HHMAX-ENERGY (Chengdu) Technology Co., Ltd. It explored how these companies are pursuing multiple technological pathways to accelerate the commercialization of nuclear fusion.

The article points out that in the public imagination, nuclear fusion has always been a domain reserved for “national teams,” accessible only to massive scientific facilities and top-tier laboratories. Yet in this race, a new generation of young entrepreneurs from universities, research institutes, and venture capital circles is quietly emerging. Their goal is to dismantle the giant “fusion aircraft carrier” into portable “energy drones,” transforming complex scientific research into faster-to-deploy, lower-cost “miniature artificial suns.”

The article “Diverse Pathways: Portraits of China's ‘Artificial Sun’ Entrepreneurs” specifically profiles China's commercial nuclear fusion enterprises, noting that on February 19, 2025, HHMAX-ENERGY officially commenced construction of its fusion device facility. Founded in 2022, this young company specializes in Linear Field Reversed-Configuration (FRC) technology, aiming to build a “miniature artificial sun” using more compact and flexible devices. In an interview, Xiang Jiang, Chairman of HHMAXFusion Energy, stated that traditional approaches require continuously and stably “igniting the sun,” posing immense challenges to materials and control systems. If traditional technology resembles a massive subway system, HHMAXFusion Energy aspires to build a lightweight, efficient, and high-speed maglev train.

To address the “cash burn” challenge on the path to commercialization, HHMAX-ENERGY has proposed a “laying eggs along the way” strategy. This involves leveraging neutrons generated during fusion to develop medical and industrial neutron source technologies before fusion power generation is achieved. These technologies will serve multiple fields including cancer treatment, nuclear pharmaceutical isotope production, neutron imaging, and nuclear waste processing, thereby opening up pathways for short-term commercial monetization. This initiative represents both scientific exploration and an ongoing business experiment designed to generate sustainable revenue.

In addition to being published in the Economic Information Daily, the article was released on the Xinhua News Agency app, attracting significant attention and surpassing 160,000 views within two hours.
