Once again featured in a publication under Xinhua News Agency, Outlook News Weekly highlights private enterprises like HHMAX-ENERGY driving China's nuclear fusion industry development.

On June 16, the “Deep Insight” column of Outlook News Weekly's 2025 Issue 24 featured an article titled “Controlled Nuclear Fusion: Private Sector Potential Gradually Unleashed,” highlighting how private enterprises like HHMAX ENERGY (Chengdu) Technology Co., Ltd. are driving China's nuclear fusion industry forward. This marks the third time this year that a central-level media outlet has spotlighted HHMAX Energy and private fusion companies, underscoring media and public attention on the controlled nuclear fusion sector's development and recognition of private entities like HHMAX Energy driving progress in the field. The article was simultaneously published on the Xinhua News Agency client, where its views rapidly surpassed 200,000.

Outlook News Weekly, Issue 24, 2025

The article outlines the development and technological innovations of commercial nuclear fusion enterprises from three perspectives: the entry of private sector forces, the emerging advantages of flexibility, and the untapped potential awaiting realization. It highlights that China's private controlled nuclear fusion enterprises are advancing rapidly, leveraging advantages such as diverse technical approaches, agile development, and relatively lower costs. These companies strive to ignite their own “mini-suns,” emerging as complementary technological innovation forces alongside state-backed entities. As bottlenecks in technology and funding continue to be addressed, this innovative force is poised to play an increasingly significant role in harnessing the “ultimate energy source.”

The article specifically mentions HHMAX-ENERGY and its adopted Field Reverse Configuration (FRC) technology approach. “We have chosen the structurally simpler ‘Field Reverse Configuration’ (FRC) technology approach, which does not require the construction of massive and complex toroidal magnetic field coils, potentially reducing the difficulty and cost of engineering implementation.” “National institutions excel at fundamental research and scientific exploration, while private enterprises focus more on commercial viability and engineering processes in technology R&D and application,” stated Xiang Jiang, Chairman of HHMAX-ENERGY, in an interview. “Private enterprises can make more flexible adjustments in funding and technology, striving to shorten the cycle from laboratory to market as much as possible.”

The article specifically highlighted HHMAX-ENERGY's innovative “laying eggs along the way” development model. Before achieving power generation, the HHMAX-ENERGY team first leveraged neutrons produced during the fusion process to develop technologies for cancer treatment, neutron imaging, and nuclear waste processing, thereby realizing partial commercial returns in advance.

Xinhua News Agency reprinted the report.

This coverage marks the third time this year that HHMAX-ENERGY and other private fusion enterprises have garnered attention from central-level media, following reports in the Economic Information Daily on March 27 and Xinhua News Agency's overseas app on April 8. It underscores the rapid momentum of controlled nuclear fusion development. While media continue to focus on national-level R&D efforts, increasing attention is being directed toward the progress of private enterprises like HHMAXFusion Energy. Their contributions to both the research and development and commercialization of controlled nuclear fusion have been highly recognized.
